The Nature of fashion report

In 2020, the Biomimicry Institute released The Nature of Fashion Report, asking: “What would the fashion industry look like if it acted like a natural ecosystem?” Our answer: decomposition is the missing engine.

The Nature of Wildfire Report

A group of multidisciplinary and creative individuals came together in the Spring of 2024 as the Institute’s Launchpad Cohort. Initially, they were not aware they would study this particular phenomenon, but the insights gained from this collaboration offered crucial lessons for global wildfire adaptation and ecosystem management. To frame these lessons, the group turned to a powerful paradigm for understanding nature’s wisdom: Biomimicry.

2025 Youth Design challenge winners

The 2025 Biomimicry Youth Design Challenge has wrapped up! Nearly 200 teams from six continents registered and created nature-inspired solutions to the critical issues facing their communities. This year’s Challenge was proudly hosted in partnership with POCACITO (Post-Carbon Cities of Tomorrow), amplifying the reach and impact of student-led innovation on a global stage.

Each team worked through the NGSS-aligned curriculum to learn biomimicry concepts and methods, and by the end of May they submitted comprehensive project portfolios presenting their design solutions. An international jury of biomimicry practitioners, engineers, educators, and scientists evaluated the proposals, offered feedback, and selected special commendations for exceptional work in both age and thematic categories.

The winners have now been announced—meet them below.
