Biomimicry Co-Labs

Transforming sectors through nature’s solutions
Biomimicry Co-Labs activate industries with nature’s solutions, through 12-month collaborations—each year focusing on a different sector. We bring together practitioners and experts to create practical tools that help entire industries shift from incremental change to nature-positive transformation.
Explore this Co-Lab Initiative
Each Biomimicry Co-Lab convenes 15-20 change-makers—industry innovators, design practitioners, implementation experts, and knowledge partners who understand both their sector’s potential and constraints.
The 12-month program combines monthly virtual sessions with collaborative research periods and one strategic in-person workshop aligned with major industry events. Participants identify critical leverage points—from design principles to material innovation—and co-create tangible deliverables that speak directly to industry gaps.
Deliverables are decided collectively and may include implementation toolkits, case studies, frameworks, calls to action, and policy recommendations. By understanding what prevents industries from adopting nature-inspired approaches, we work together to build the specific tools and awareness campaigns needed to overcome these barriers and enable sectors to operate more harmoniously with nature.

Buildings, Cities and Infrastructure Sector
“The built environment sector has an enormous impact on biodiversity, from its materials supply chain all the way through to its construction and operations. The sector is grappling with a transformation towards Nature Positive Buildings, Cities and Infrastructure and we know that within nature’s genius lies critical solutions that we can bring into action through convening these incredible thought leaders. This Co-Lab is about turning deep inspiration from nature into scalable strategies that can help the sector to become regenerative.”

2025 Biomimicry co-lab
Buildings, Cities, and Infrastructure
The built environment sector is waking up to its profound impact on nature, and while some understand the potential of biomimicry, turning this knowledge into action at scale remains a challenge. Our 2025 Biomimicry Co-Lab: Buildings, Cities & Infrastructure, we are bringing together practitioners and experts to develop practical tools for implementation, creating the resources and capacity needed to help the sector shift toward a nature-positive built environment.

Identify Leverage Points
We will identify critical leverage points including design principles, material innovation, connection to place, and biophilic design to transform how the built environment operates.

Create Practical Tools
The Co-Lab will develop tangible deliverables that speak directly to industry gaps—implementation toolkits, frameworks, case studies, and policy recommendations co-created by practitioners.

Build Sector Capacity
Through global collaboration, we’re building the knowledge and skills needed to integrate biomimicry and biophilic design approaches at scale across the built environment sector.

Catalyze Immediate Action
Moving beyond incremental change, we’re creating disruptive solutions and clear implementation pathways that enable rapid adoption of nature-inspired solutions.
2025 Participants
Our inaugural Biomimicry Co-Lab brings together a diverse group of changemakers reimagining the built environment through nature’s sense. Over the next 12 months, these thought leaders will co-create practical tools and strategies to help shift buildings, cities, and infrastructure toward a nature-positive future.
