A new video called Mother Nature’s Shoes from the PBS program, SciGirls, features three high school girls who decided to design non-skid footwear by studying nature. These Minnesota students were mentored by Cindy Gilbert, program coordinator, faculty, and advisor for the Minneapolis College of Art and Design’s Sustainable Design Online program and a Biomimicry Fellow.

This science-loving trio first did some research both online and at zoos, then started drawing, creating, and testing prototypes. Meet the girls, Cindy, and their natural models while watching the nature-inspired design process take place.
